Black Beauty

I imagine it’s easier to identify a four-week-old fetus on an ultrasound than it is to pick the perfect shade of black paint. After staring at swatches for 72 hours I made the decision based on the name of the color.  Black Beauty sounded more appealing than Twilight Zone, Onyx or Iron Mountain. And it’s as rich and gorgeous as I had hoped. Benjamin Moore came through yet again.

Artiste

Somedays, I fancy myself an artist. I’m not good, but years of practice doing paint-by-numbers has taught me a thing or two about the craft. I recently decided to repurpose four square canvases I have stashed in my garage. I’m going to resurface them with gesso, splatter on some paint and call it modern art. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll go back to my coloring books.

Living on the Edge

This is what I’ll be doing this weekend. I might even organize my silverware drawer. I hope your weekend will be as action packed as mine!

Office Sneak Peek

Remember when I put my foot down and finally sold the XX Large desk and chair in our office/guest room? Since then, we repainted the puke green walls, purchased some size appropriate furniture and did some rearranging to create a much more pleasant space. It’s not done yet, but here’s a preview for the curious.

Before: Fugly walls and bed in the middle of the room

Can you even believe I allowed that chair into our home?

Better huh?

Paint it Black

I made it pretty clear that I was anti black walls unless I was taking Zoloft. I eat my words. I’m suddenly in love and inspired by black. Maybe it’s the weather. We have one accent wall behind the couch and it would be much easier to experiment with that instead of repaint all the walls white, which is what I really want to do, but don’t dare bring it up to the Husband. He’ll divorce me.

This is the original image from Anna of Door Sixteen that made me die. She just painted her bedroom black and I love.

The wall art is frightening, but the rest is swoon-worthy (image via)

I would be complete if I could read a book in the above window seat. Does anyone know where I can get me one of those shaggy poof things on the floor?  (image via Design Sponge)

Envy: White Walls

When we first moved into our house five years ago, we went a little crazy with the paint colors (think every shade of puke imaginable). Eventually, we toned it down to more neutral tones except for the dark accent wall in our living room. And last weekend we painted the lime green office to a more liveable shade of gray. Overall, I feel okay about the colors, but when I see homes of fabulous bloggers like Made by Girl, I desperately want white walls again. Why did I ever find white unappealing? Do you think I’ll be able to convince the Husband to help me repaint the house?

Pizza, Bubbly and Ben

The Husband and I have another crazy weekend in front of us so the only way we’re ever going to finish painting the office is to turn it into a date night activity. So tonight, we’re going to make our own pizza, chug sip champagne and hang out with our good friend Benjamin Moore.

Gray Matters

It’s been a week since we primed the office/guest room and I still haven’t decided on which shade of gray to go with. I’ve narrowed it down to Benjamin Moore’s Silver Fox (left) and Stonington Gray (right).

I’m leaning towards the Stonington Gray. The light in this photo is awful so here are some photosI found that better depict these colors. What do you think?

Helpless Wife

“I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to help her paint.”

I repeated that four times until the Husband broke down and helped me prime the office/guest room last night. Together, we’ve painted every single wall in our house over the last five years and I once swore I would never paint again. What the hell made me think I could do it alone.

I attempted last night’s project on my own and about 1/8 of the way through, my forearm felt like it would fall off and my right foot was covered in primer.  I’m putting this project on my list of top regrets because the last thing I want to do is finish it. Luckily, this helpless wife has an amazing husband who agreed to help.

The only stipulation? The color we paint the room must be conducive to a nursery because we never want to paint another wall again. Do you think my baby will like gray?
