You’ve Got Mail

The holiday cards are starting to roll in and once again I’m feeling slightly un-American for not sending our own. Isn’t it a rule or something that when you get married or give birth, you automatically take family portraits and mail them to your 100 closest friends and coworkers?

What do you think? Are you a holiday card type of family?

the kid holding the dildo is making me cry with laughter!

    thanks!!!!!

Ahaha, I love cards, the old fashioned kind. Not the letter, not the family photo, not the photo card – but that’s just me. My favorite are from marrieds without children whose photo cards are just a million photos of themselves which are already on facebook…

These are hilarious. I don’t want to be a bitch and if I ever have kids I will probably change my mind but for right now I say please don’t send out pics of yourself or your kids. I guess I am a grinch, but it is expensive and kinda silly if you ask me…people would much rather you call them and have a great gab session on the phone than look at your family portrait…

Ahaha you found some winning pictures here! I don’t really subscribe to the family portrait idea, I prefer something less traditional. This year I just did a picture of Apollo as a reindeer and left it at that ha ha.

OMG the akward family photos book is hilarious… I haven’t gotten into the card thing yet, but then again, I’m not married lol!

We send them out every year. People expect them and, because I’m a photographer, I’ve also heard “wonder what she’ll do this year?” One year, I was very ill and sent nothing and I heard expressions of concern from many. It was then that I realized that people actually looked forward to the cards!

Mostly, though, I send them because I like to. I also enjoy receiving them and, in a world where Facebook, email, and twitter seem to dominate all human interaction, it’s great to think that someone actually took a moment to sit down and WRITE to me. That, more than the cards themselves, is what I really treasure.

Damn Sabra, you are making me rethink my card choice this year.. why didn’t Kev, Odin, and I go with a matching plaid PJ’s picture…there is always next year.

Please email me! I have a question about your blog🙂

These cards are all so… Depressing. I’ve never been a big card sender, but this year I actually won a blog give away and the prize was from a stationary place. So this year I’m sending out cards with my boyfriend. No pictures of us, just a nice funny card with an awesome illustration.

I’m trying to convince myself I’m not a loser.

  10. Hysterical… I always love these! Girl, we didn’t send a damn thing out… nothing! Do I feel guilty – a lil, but I’ll snap out of it… we did the same thing last year… drag the feet and then send a notta out!

  11. Belen says:

These are SO amazing!!! I am totally all about family portraits except when I say family I mean my 3 dogs. Which is what I did this year for our holiday cards😉

  12. Iris says:

    I can’t stop laughing at these…hilarious.

  13. no not at all ~ we have yet to try this!!😉😉

  14. LOL that’s amazing! Not the family portrait type of couple but I do send some xmas cards out. I’m actually late this year and I’m not even stressing about it🙂 xoxo

  15. Hahaha. That is one of my favorite sites. They have the most AMAZING pictures. I have quite a few that I could submit🙂

  16. p.s. just remembered my brother and his wife did one a few years ago like the top photo as a joke, with matching sweaters and their two cats. (I cannot confirm that the cats weren’t also matching.)

  17. I’m just sitting here laughing, shaking my head “that’s not real, that can’t be real!” Hilarious!

I just ordered mine last night although I think my friends are sick of seeing only my kid every year.

  18. My response to this post will only be this link: http://www.sexypeople-blog.com/

    Enjoy.

Haaaaahahahaha! Love this post. We got married in June and I felt the need to get xmas cards this year….what is that? I always like getting them though🙂 especially from a few families that send something truly special like the pics above. lol

  20. Hahaha. I love these. We send cards every year, but my mom has always been against including a family photo. She says Christmas isn’t about our family, it’s about God’s family. hahaha. Have a good Christmas season, cards or no cards!

  21. Aubrey says:

Oh good golly…I’m pretty sure I would’ve been scarred for life if this was the kind of family photos my family did! We definitely did some matching outfits, etc…but seriously, who didn’t??? (c: The ones where one/all of the participants are missing articles of clothing are the most disturbing…

  22. If I were more together I would dress Bailey up to the nines and mail him out. Butttt I never get into the holiday spirit until like the 23rd, so it seems pointless.

Awkward family photos are the best. Really the kid with the balloon? Really?

  23. I love getting and sending cards… but we only send to 50. I’m a nerd though – a total sucker for paper mail🙂

  24. designstiles says:

We’ve mailed some out the last two years. I still haven’t really decided if we’re going to mail some out this year. I’m leaning towards no. The thought of writing out 100 addresses makes my hand hurt.

Here was ours from last year. I was going for the, we don’t take ourselves too seriously look. http://designstiles.me/2010/12/25/feliz-navidad/

  25. Tamra says:

hahah we are on the same wave length. I too had the holiday guilt of not sending a photo card. so, we attempted to take an awkward family photo in front of the tree and it was a MAJOR FAIL. I just want to send a picture of Bella, but the hubs insist we be in it?!? really? ugh.

    let’s protest the photo card.
