Girlfriends

I’ve been sick, which is never fun but it becomes even less fun when it causes me to miss my first ever book club gathering. How have I not belonged to one before, you ask. Because I’ve always had social anxiety, which I’ve recently been kicking in the ass. There’s something about getting older that’s making me braver and more confident. Or it could be alcohol. No fears though as this weekend I’m going to participate in the best social gathering of the century. Erika. Irene. Tamra. 80s cover band. Need I say more?

Reform Yourself

You know I fancy myself a hippie despite my entire life, which indicates otherwise — corporate job, V6 engine, regular use of a curling iron — so I love pretty things that are friendly to the earth. Take the fashion brand Reformation for example. They repurpose vintage and surplus materials to make stylish goods that are more suitable to my age group than say Nasty Gal. And they manufacture their own stuff in their LA and New York studios so we don’t have to worry about children sewing our clothes. Oh and don’t get me started on the accessories.

Shop on their website or browse their blog for more on this brand. There, I’ve done my good deed for the week. Have a happy weekend!

I’m Back

I went to Toronto without my camera. Shame on me. But I did Instagram some shit, namely photos of the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and our clubbing escapades. Did you know that the legal drinking age in Canada is 19? I think my clubbing days in Canada are over you guys.

I also spent quality time with my family and developed a case of severe baby fever, which I need to get rid of immediately as I’m traveling to the champagne region of France in a few months and plan on drinking excessively. Also, I missed the Husband a ridiculous amount (he didn’t come with me) and I determined that spending a few days apart is good for romance.

I’m going to spend the remainder of the week not eating and doing some form of extreme exercise. Happy Hump Day!

Summer Reading List

Summer is coming to an end and I’m not nearly as glowy or well-read as I should be. It’s time to for a vacation. I’m heading to Toronto this week to visit family and pretend I don’t have a job. And I can’t wait for the flight. There’s nothing like being thousands of feet away from the real world with my gorgeous books. Escapism at its finest.

Picnicking

A picnic is one of those activities that sounds so quaint, but The Husband and I have never actually gone on one. Partly because we don’t have a basket and lugging around a cooler is the opposite of romantic. Also because it’s illegal to drink in any public beach or park in our city and you know alcohol is necessary. And we don’t have a blanket so essentially we’ve pretty much killed the novelty of the entire thing.

Still every weekend I debate whether or not to throw some snacks together, fill up our to-go coffee mugs with champagne and lounge outdoors on our beach towels. Maybe this is the weekend we will. Happy Friday!

Love for Lana

You know who’s ridiculously cool? Lana Del Rey. Sultry, sexy and interesting. She’s been described as a “self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra.” I know she’s accused of being an industry creation (aren’t they all) and criticized for getting plastic surgery (don’t they all) but I don’t care. She puts my love for Britney Spears to shame.

This New York Times magazine interview is fairly old, but captures her pretty perfectly. Read it here. Now excuse me while I go apply liquid eyeliner.

Happenings

While I was out:

  • I celebrated the end of my cleanse with sangria.
  • I celebrated the end of my cleanse with blackberry margaritas and a manicure.
  • I walked off the sangria and margaritas with Dexter.
  • I drank a gin martini to keep the celebration going.
  • I napped away an entire Saturday.

It’s like I’m in college all over again.

If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sorry for the regurgitation.
